Big Brother

This morning as I’m trying to get ready, my three year old asks me to read her a book. I told her I’d do it as soon as I got dressed and brushed my teeth. She was disappointed and I felt a bit guilty but we were running late.

My five year old goes into her room and I can hear him begin to read her the book. Then I heard them giggling about something. I felt so proud and happy and that was before 8:00 a.m. I’m thankful for my son for being a great kid and starting my day off on the right note.

Dog Park

We adopted a dog about a month ago and we took her to the dog park for the first time today. She hasn’t had too much interaction with dogs so we weren’t sure what to expect. She tore through the dog park and chased all the other dogs. She was having so much fun running around and the kids were laughing so hard at her. Here’s a picture of her sleeping afterwards with her tongue out. Yeah, she had fun.

Best Birthday Present

Today my five year old son went into the living room and began working on the computer. He told me not to come into the room. He came out twice. The first time he asked me how to capitalize a letter and the second time he asked me how to spell “school”. When he came out he had a proud look on his face and he gave me this note for my birthday. It was the best present I’ve received in a long time. I’m not even mad that I had to share my glory with his dad, nani and papa.

Last night my husband mowed our lawn. I was wondering what was taking him so long so I looked out the window and I saw he was mowing our new neighbor’s yard. That’s the man I love. He has a big heart and he is one of the greatest things in my life.

This is something I read and had to reread a few more times because it is so true. Sometimes I bury my feelings but I’ve been consciously working to be more open.

“Feelings are messy and so we avoid them. But when it comes to the ones we love we often forget that, in the end, feelings are really all that matter.”

Happy Birthday

It’s my first post and I’m including an image of a beef stick and jerky. Let me explain. Today would have been my brother-in-law’s 53rd birthday. I think about him every day and miss him terribly. He was a huge meat lover–especially hot sticks and beef jerky. My son, his godchild, shares in the love for the same food. Today, we will toast to all the good memories in the most appropriate way. Hot sticks and jerky for all.
